Wow! A3 and Pioneer Park have had a really busy start to 2016...
Early this month we said a sad farewell to Mrs. Ogilvie, who has been a tremendous addition to Pioneer Park P.S. from September to February... In the words of one of our grade 6 students, she is "the world's best principal". High praise indeed! At the same time, we are equally excited to welcome our new principal, Ms.Tait. Pioneer Park celebrated in typical fashion with a an assembly earlier this week to officially welcome Ms. Tait to Pioneer Park, as well as accept a generous donation from the Kitchener Pioneer Lions Club for the Panther Hockey Program. Check out some of the photos as we said goodbye to Mrs. Ogilvie and welcomed Ms. Tait. K. Losey We all chose a "thing" to do a research project on and shared a few of our projects with another grade 5/6 class. Each class then offered constructive feedback in the form of two stars and a wish.
The feedback showed that our area to focus on for this coming research project, should be on proofreading and editing our work (capitals, grammar, punctuation) and on sourcing all of our work, both images and facts. Do you have any other hints or suggestions for research projects? Be sure to share them with us! K. http://www.dearyouartproject.com/happenings/2016/1/24/greetings-from-canada This week, the students learned what computer science is, and had the opportunity to start storytelling with the program, Scratch. Scratch uses sprites (characters) that you can program to do and say things, using drag and drop programming instructions. You then "run the code" and check your programming skills. Did your sprite do and say what you wanted it to do? If not, it was back to the programming side of things to see how you could fix it. Students also learned how to change the background of their story this week, as well as have the sprites take turns when speaking.
The students are also working on filling our their "Passport for Computer Science" that encourages a self-reflection of the skills they have learned, and a summary of what their story is about so far... Hopefully we will have a few short stories to share later this week! Stay tuned for the great programming coming out of A3! K. Losey
I you have not yet checked out the Global Citizens classroom, please do.
There is a link to a VERY short video about the Tar Sands and a place for you to respond in the following padlet.
The grade 6 students have been learning how to play the ukulele with their music teacher. This was their first public performance yesterday at the Pioneer Park Carol Sing!!
There were a total of 680 items collected this year for the food bank, and over $245 as part of our Tins and Toonies campaign.
Way to go Pioneer Park! A big shout out: thanks! To the Global Citizens of A2 and A3! K. Losey |
