This week, the students learned what computer science is, and had the opportunity to start storytelling with the program, Scratch. Scratch uses sprites (characters) that you can program to do and say things, using drag and drop programming instructions. You then "run the code" and check your programming skills. Did your sprite do and say what you wanted it to do? If not, it was back to the programming side of things to see how you could fix it. Students also learned how to change the background of their story this week, as well as have the sprites take turns when speaking.
The students are also working on filling our their "Passport for Computer Science" that encourages a self-reflection of the skills they have learned, and a summary of what their story is about so far... Hopefully we will have a few short stories to share later this week! Stay tuned for the great programming coming out of A3! K. Losey
