WHO: Students at Pioneer Park P.S. - calling all Panthers!
WHAT: Dance-a-thon and school fundraiser WHEN: Thurs. March 10 - time, to be announced! WHERE: Pioneer Park P.S. Gym WHY: To have fun, get active, and raise money for the school! Our class has a new group of Art Pals in Finland, in 2016. For this assignment, we have created masks using some of the patterns that we see on our own bodies, or using other inspiration. Check out the following link to see some of the work of our Finnish Art Pals: http://www.dearyouartproject.com/happenings/2016/1/31/the-english-school-find-creativity-everywhere Here are some of our interpretations of patterns on our body, and other creative masks. As always, it is interesting how different artists interpret the same assignment and task!
K. Losey Tips and tricks to feed the most chickadees: * stand very still * if you need to move, do so very slowly and quietly * rest your arm on the railing if it's getting tired * you may want to kneel down to do this more easily * hold your hand away from your body so that the chickadees feel less threatened * don't talk (if you need to, whisper) * be patient! * black sunflower seeds and striped sunflower seeds are VERY popular (so are peanuts, but be careful with allergies - we can't use them with the school) * go to an area that chickadees usually frequent - perhaps where you have a regular feeder, close the feeder and hold a handful of seeds out and hope for the best! Good luck trying to feed chickadees! This video was shot in slow motion, and refined in HD - they move VERY quickly...
Today, the grade sixes were fortunate enough to visit with Peter Raspberry at the Blair Outdoor Ed Centre to learn about biodiversity. After a short visit in the classroom (see another post for that) we left the centre to try out snowshoes on the recent snowfall. This was a first experience for many of the students. Check out the gallery below and a few of the short videos that Mrs. Losey took of the "Snowshoe Races". Have you even been snowshoeing before? If so, do you have any tips or tricks to share with others? What was your favourite snowshoeing memory? What part of the videos below was your favourite? Be sure to leave a comment below and let us know what you think! K. Losey
I returned early from my prep during dance class one day to catch the first run through of the boys dance performance. They had done such a wonderful job that their dance teacher asked them to do it again so that we could record it... this is the recording from that day!
While not quite as perfect as the first time through (got cut short a bit), they did a fantastic job creating their own choreography and performing in front of the class! Way to go, boys!
