Social Studies. Science. Language. Media Literacy. Math. More than curriculum topics, these subjects address many of the larger issues in our Global Community. As Global Citizens, our youth need to become informed, aware, and educated about their role in many of the larger global issues, such as: child labour, poverty, consumerism, climate change, sustainable growth, ecological footprints, recycling, waste management, water rights/availability, loss of natural habitats, and invasive species to name just a few.
Too often it can be heard: "What can I do?" "How can I help?" "I'm just a kid, no one listens to me." "Why don't people care?" Instead, I think we all need to be thinking and saying: "If not me, then who?" "If not now, then when?" "I can make my own choices." "I can learn about how others live." "I can make a difference. Can you?" We all have a choice. Our every action or inaction can lead to positive change and growth, or a continuation of the same mistakes as the generations before us. Refuse to make the same mistakes. Educate yourself, become aware, identify what you believe in and spread the word: I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, CAN YOU? K. Losey
