This past week, we started the Global Read Aloud, "Fish In A Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. After the first two chapters, the following quote was shared with the students...
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. " - Albert Einstein
As a class, we discussed what this quote meant and reflected upon a time in our lives when all of us may have felt "like a fish in a tree". Students then wrote about their fish in a tree moment and decorated their fish. They then placed their fish in a tree in the hallway outside our classroom.
A few of the ideas that were mentioned included: * when they first moved to Canada: nothing was familiar, and they didn't speak the language * when they felt that they were alone and had no friends * when everyone was playing a soccer game and they felt isolated because they did not know what to do in the game
Is there a time in your life that you have felt like a fish in a tree? If so, please feel free to share in the comments below, or via twitter @KaarinaLosey. We look forward to hearing from you!
